Shower Conversion & Walk-In Shower Services
A shower conversion takes the shower you have — a cramped fiberglass stall, a dated tile box with a failing pan, a tub-shower combo you never use as a tub — and rebuilds it as a spacious, easy-entry walk-in shower designed around your routine. It is one of the most requested projects in our bathroom remodeling work because it improves the room you use every single day.
What a Walk-In Conversion Involves
We remove the old unit down to the framing, inspect and repair the subfloor and studs, and adjust plumbing for the new valve, shower head and any additions like a hand shower or rain head. The new shower is built with a properly sloped pan or curbless entry, full waterproofing behind the tile or wall panels, and your choice of finishes — large-format tile, natural stone looks, or modern grout-free panels. Glass options range from a fixed splash panel to framed or frameless enclosures. Built-in benches and recessed niches are framed and waterproofed as part of the structure, not added as an afterthought.
Curbless and Low-Threshold Entries
Many clients choose a curbless or low-curb design for easier entry and a cleaner look. Curbless showers require careful floor engineering — the drain area must be recessed or the surrounding floor raised so water stays where it belongs — and we will evaluate your floor structure during the consultation and tell you exactly what your home allows. If you are planning ahead for mobility, combine the conversion with the features on our aging-in-place bathroom page, including grab-bar blocking and handheld shower placement.
Expanding Into a Bigger Shower
If your stall is small but the bathroom has a little give — an oversized vanity run, an underused linen closet, a garden tub nobody soaks in — we can often borrow that space and give you a genuinely roomy shower. Layout changes involve moving drain and supply lines, which our in-house plumbing capability handles without subcontractor delays. During the consultation we will measure the possibilities with you and sketch what each option gains.
Waterproofing You Never See but Always Benefit From
The difference between a shower that lasts five years and one that lasts thirty is hidden behind the tile: membrane systems, sealed seams, correctly flashed niches, and a pan built to current code. We photograph the waterproofing stage for your records before tile goes on, so you can see exactly what protects your home.
How Long Does a Conversion Take?
Timelines depend on scope: tile work, glass fabrication and any layout changes are the main variables, and custom glass is typically measured after tile is complete so it fits perfectly. During your consultation we will give you a realistic schedule for your specific design rather than a best-case guess, and we sequence the work so your bathroom is out of service for the shortest honest window. If this is your only bathroom, tell us at the first visit — we plan demolition, plumbing and tile stages to restore basic function as early as the work safely allows.
